Patrick has been working in the international development arena for over two decades. He did a degree in Law at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and later earned a Master of Laws Degree (with the Best Graduating Student Award) from the same University. He was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1991. Patrick proceeded to do two other master degrees, namely, Master in Industrial and Labour Relations (MILR) and Master in Public Administration (MPA specializing in Policy Studies) at the University of Lagos in Nigeria. He later did a Postgraduate Studies in Cross-Sector Partnerships at the Cambridge University, Cambridge and finally crowned it all with a PhD in Public Management.
With that robust multidisciplinary background, Patrick has worked across different sectors (local government, department of justice, private sector, local NGO, international NGO, international organisations as well as the UN System) for over two and half decades. He previously worked with UNDP Capacity Building Support Programme as Principal Advisor for Trade and Development in the Directorate for Commerce, Ministry of Development, in the Asian-Pacific country of East Timor.
Dr Patrick Tolani is a man of many parts. As the Chief Executive of CESEL, he is a main resource person in area of stakeholder’s relationship management in the renewable energy landscape in Nigeria. His unique ability to navigate through government agencies, development institutions and communities has helped him to achieve tremendous success in the renewable energy sector in Nigeria. His participatory approach to community engagement is gaining prominence in the country.

Alex joined the EUEI PDF in July 2014. Within the team, Alex works on the topic of private sector cooperation under the RECP. Alex holds an Master's degree in International Relations and Development Politics from the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. Prior to joining EUEI PDF, he worked as an assistant project manager for a development consultancy in Cologne on various projects funded by the European Commission's DG DEVCO and the Asian Development Bank. In this respect, he also supported a project in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia as a junior consultant.

Sonia Dunlop is a Policy Adviser at SolarPower Europe, where she is responsible for finance, emerging markets and digitalisation. She previously worked as the Communications and Public Affairs Manager at the UK’s Solar Trade Association and on EU renewable energy policy in the European Parliament in Brussels. Mr. Jain is a Computer Engineer and a CFA Charter holder, with over 9 years of experience in Banking, and Project Finance. His last stint was in a financial advisory where he worked for five years and was heading the Africa team. Yesufu Longe Alonge joined the NBET team as the General Manager, Power Procurement and Power Contracts in June 2012 after fourteen years in the private sector. Longe has worked over thirteen years in the Power Generation sector of the Nigerian Energy Industry in several capacities, most recently being the Technical and Operations Manager for AES Nig. Barge Operations Limited were he led the Commercial, Technical and Operation aspect of the business. This post he held till joining NBET in 2012. Based on his performance in AES, Engr. Alonge was chosen to attend several AES trainings overseas notably the AES Emerging Leaders Program at the University of Virginia Business School, Darden, USA September 2007.
Longe holds a First class honors degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Benin where he was valedictorian for that session and also earned an MBA degree from the same university. He completed a Masters in Environmental Engineering from the University of Lagos and is a registered member of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE).

Ilana Cohen manages the Innovation Grant Fund for the GSMA Mobile for Development Utilities Programme. The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide. Through support from the UK’s Department for International Development, the Mobile for Development Utilities programme promotes the use of mobile technology for driving greater access to energy, water and sanitation services for the underserved. The Innovation Grant Fund supports organisations that are piloting or scaling these innovative service delivery models and shares learnings with the broader sector.
Ilana holds an MSc Water Science, Policy and Management from Oxford University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Brandeis University. Prior her work at the GSMA, Ilana’s Master’s research on the use of mobile payments for water bills in Kenya led her to two years of consulting for water and sanitation organisations and international donors, advising on the application of mobile tools. Paul van Aalst is a seasoned professional in investing in emerging markets, primarily in renewable energy. Paul currently is team leader of the RECP Finance Catalyst program. The Finance Catalyst advises renewable energy projects in sub-Saharan Africa for finance opportunities, targeting projects in the range of 0.5MW–50MW. Paul has been a director of an international investment company for access to clean and affordable energy in emerging markets, and of an investment fund for SMEs in Ghana. He has been engaged in investing seed capital and growth capital to renewable energy companies. He was team leader in developing the Global Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Fund (GEEREF), a EUR 110 mln investment fund, managed by the European Investment Bank, targeting emerging markets.
As a consultant, his themes are financing of innovative businesses in emerging markets. For the World Bank, he is currently developing the Ghana Climate Venture Fund, a fund providing early-stage capital to innovative companies in e.g. clean energy.

Janos Bonta has been working with FMO since 1990 in various management and finance positions in Africa, Latin America and East Europe/Central Asia Region. In the Energy team his scope of business is power finance in Africa and FarEast Asia. He was at various times counsel in leading law firms in Nigeria including Chief Rotimi Williams' Chambers; Babalakin & Co; Olaniwun Ajayi and KPMG Nigeria. She has held Senior Policy Adviser on Energy Policies, Regulations and Partnerships at the Ministry of Power in Nigeria, where she led a number of policy and partnership initiatives for the Nigerian power sector including cultivating and managing relationship with the World Economic Forum and World Energy Council, the Europe Energy African Partnership, The West African Power Industry Convention and the African Utilities Week (AUW). She was also responsible for building, cultivating and driving public private partnerships for project delivery and implementation in the power sector. She held similar senior advisory portfolios with the Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Rachel More Rachel is an experienced executive financier with over a decade of professional investment banking experience in the infrastructure and energy sector. Past involvements cover both the deployment and raising of capital in the project finance space in emerging markets, including over USD 1 billion of direct investments across key sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa. Rachel has been involved in several pioneering and first-in-kind transactions that have changed the landscape and are now used as templates for future transactions. She began her career as a Business Developer at AES Corporation, a global energy company active in the development and construction of power generation and distribution plants. She subsequently joined the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group where she implemented projects in the power and ICT sectors in Sub-Saharan Africa and in Latin America. Rachel is currently with Rand Merchant Bank, the South Africa’s leading investment bank, and is responsible for originating and executing infrastructure transactions across West Africa.

Justin Woodward is a co-founder and the Chief Development Officer of JCM. Justin is primarily responsible for leading the development of JCM's Nigeria platform. Prior to his current role, Justin led the development, construction and financing for over 75 individual rooftop projects in Canada. Segun Adaju is the CEO of Consistent Energy. Segun has provided expert services as a consultant on renewable energy to various organisations such as UNDP, Bank of Industry Nigeria, Ecobank Nigeria, USAID, Winrock International, World Bank Group, Federal Government of Nigeria, Hienrich Boll Foundation, CTI Private Finance Advisory Network, Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves etc. He has been playing a key role in creating access to clean energy for off-grid communities and poor rural households in Nigeria and a leading advocate for the removal of fuel subsidy in the Nigerian energy sector. As the Public Relations Officer of the Association of Nigerian Solar Energy Promoters, he has also led the advocacy for the creation of a level playing field for clean energy technologies and supported policy framework including mobilising rural women to advocate for increasing access to energy for the underserved. He brings his over two decades of commercial, retail and microfinance banking experience to bare on increasing access to finance across the renewable energy value chain.
Segun holds a B.Sc degree in Economics and MBA from the University of Lagos Nigeria and has attended executive training programs in Harvard Business School, MIT/Sloan School of Management, Frankfurt School of Management/UNEP, Lagos Business School and Renewables Academy Berlin.

Laura serves as the Program Adviser for GOGLA’s ‘Facilitating Access to Finance’ program. The objective of the program is to help increase investments in the sector that will allow it to scale up and accelerate the development of the off-grid market, leading to more people benefiting from clean, sustainable and economically viable off-grid lighting and electrification. Prior to joining GOGLA, Laura worked at Arc Finance, where she oversaw staff training and consumer education efforts related to consumer financing for energy products and services, and led Arc Finance’s conferences and workshops on innovations in financing off-grid clean energy. Laura holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of St Andrews, as well as a Master of Public Administration degree from Columbia University.

Gottschalk holds a Master’s degree in renewable energy engineering from the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft University of Applied Sciences in Berlin and founded the Thinktank ‘Energiewende’. Rolake leads energy deal origination and manages key sector relationships for FBN Merchant Bank, investment and merchant banking arm of Nigeria’s largest financial services group FBN Holdings Plc. She is focussed on delivering the full resources of the investment bank across equity, debt and other financial products to assist energy sector clients. She also provides strategic and expert insight and advice on the energy industry both internally and externally. Passionate about the energy space, Rolake is also founder of InaTidé a social impact investment platform aimed at sourcing funding for, and incubating off-grid renewable energy SMEs in Africa.
Prior to this, FBN Merchant Bank, Rolake was for more than 3 years head of the energy research team at pan-African Ecobank, based in their London office. In her earlier career, Rolake was the lead country risk analyst for West Africa and the Gulf of Guinea at the New York-based global risk consultancy, Eurasia Group, focusing on the oil & gas and mining & metals sectors. She was also a Senior Africa Analyst in the global risk analysis team of London-based Control Risks Group, advising energy multinationals on business and investment risks in Africa.
She was listed in the 2016 Choiseul 200 Africa Under-40 list of Young Economic Leaders on the continent. In May 2015 Rolake was also named Africa’s Best Oil and Gas Analyst by US organisation Energy & Corporate Africa. She is a regular commentator on global and African energy, and has been a regular reviewer of global newspaper headlines on BBC World News TV since 2012.
She holds a BSc and MSc from the London School of Economics (LSE), and is currently pursuing a Global Executive MBA at TRIUM, a partnership of LSE, NYU Stern, and HEC Paris.

Donn has led enactment of market-accelerating rural electrification laws, policies and programs in Rwanda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Prior to co-founding KawiSafi Ventures, from 2007 to 2015 Donn helped build off-grid solar company d.light to market leadership – as an advisor, Director and then as Chairman & CEO. Donn led the 12x expansion of d.light, bringing modern light and power to over 50 million people in 62 countries, and the company’s successful expansion into pay-as-you-go solar home systems. Over the course of 20 years as a CEO and director, Donn led 2x-12x growth in four private equity-backed companies, negotiated and led a major restructuring and turnaround, and served as a director on six boards. Earlier in his career, Donn led Procter & Gamble’s fourth largest brand, $1 billion Folgers Coffee, to market leadership.
